Mosquito control
Breeding sites first, adults second, in that order, or it does not last.
Fogging a garden kills the mosquitoes that are in it at that moment. If the water they hatched from is still there, the numbers are back within days, which is why fogging alone feels like it never quite works.
We survey for breeding sites first: roof gutters, plant saucers, water tanks, discarded tyres, the gap behind a downpipe, anywhere holding water for more than about a week. Removing or treating those is what changes the numbers. Fogging then clears the adults that are already flying.
Signs
How to tell
- Biting concentrated at dawn and dusk, or all day in shaded areas
- Standing water in plant saucers, gutters, tanks or containers
- Numbers rising sharply within a week or two of heavy rain
- Mosquitoes resting in dark cool spots indoors, under furniture, behind curtains
Method
How we treat it
- 01Find the waterWe survey the whole property for anything holding water: gutters, saucers, tanks, tyres, drains, and the awkward places behind pipework.
- 02Treat or remove itStanding water is drained where possible, and treated with a larvicide where it cannot be removed, such as a tank or a permanent drain.
- 03Clear the adultsA precisely applied fog or mist through resting areas and vegetation removes the adults already flying, once the source is dealt with.
Safety
Around children and pets
Larvicides used in water storage are chosen for that purpose and dosed accordingly. Fogging is done with the household out of the treated area, and everyone can return once it has cleared, usually within the hour.
Questions
Common questions
- Can you just fog the garden?
- We can, and it will help for a few days. If the breeding sites stay, so does the problem. We would rather tell you that than sell you a fog every two weeks.
- Is it safe around a fish pond?
- Yes, provided we know it is there. Tell us before the visit and we will protect it and choose products accordingly.
Where we treat this
We cover mosquito control across Colombo and the suburbs around it. These are the areas we are booked for most:
