Rodent control
Find the way in, close it, then remove what is already inside.
Putting bait down without finding the entry point is a subscription, not a solution. A building that rats can get into will keep having rats, and the bait station simply becomes part of the furniture.
We start with how they are getting in, a gap under a door, a broken air brick, a roof valley, a drain with a missing cap, because that is the part that ends the problem. Removal comes second, and where poison is unsuitable we use trapping instead.
Signs
How to tell
- Droppings along walls, in cupboards or in the roof space
- Scratching or scurrying overhead at night, particularly just after dark
- Gnawed packaging, cables or the corners of doors
- A greasy dark smear along a regular route
- An unexplained smell that gets worse rather than fading
Method
How we treat it
- 01SurveyWe track the runs and find the entry points, inside and out, roof line, drains, service penetrations, doors. You get told where they are, whether or not you ask us to close them.
- 02ProofingEntry points are closed with materials rodents cannot gnaw through. This is the part that actually ends it.
- 03RemovalWhat is already inside is removed by trapping or by secured bait stations, depending on the building and on whether children or pets are around.
Safety
Around children and pets
Where a home has children or pets, we lead with trapping and physical exclusion rather than poison. Where bait is used it goes in tamper-resistant stations that only a rodent can enter, sited out of reach and recorded so nothing is left behind.
Questions
Common questions
- Can you do it without poison?
- Yes. Trapping plus proofing works, and in a house with small children, a dog, or an audited food area it is usually the better choice. We will say which we recommend and why.
- Why do they keep coming back?
- Because the way in is still open. Bait removes the rodents that are there; it does nothing about the gap that let them in. That is why we survey before we treat.
Where we treat this
We cover rodent control across Colombo and the suburbs around it. These are the areas we are booked for most:
