Pest control in Colombo
Colombo is the district we are called to most, and the mix of buildings is what makes it different from anywhere else we work. Apartments, older houses and restaurant kitchens all ring us about different things.
Colombo is the district we are called to most, and the mix of buildings is what makes it different from anywhere else we work. A 1950s walauwa in Cinnamon Gardens, a fourth-floor apartment in Kollupitiya and a restaurant off Galle Road have almost nothing in common except that all three ring us about cockroaches.
Apartments are the job we do most here. The thing worth knowing is that in a block, a cockroach problem is rarely confined to one unit, they travel through the service risers and the shared waste stack, so treating a single flat properly means treating the gaps where those pipes enter it, not just the kitchen. Where a whole block has a problem we would rather talk to the management company than treat eight flats one at a time and watch it come back.
Older houses bring termites. Colombo's combination of humidity and mature timber suits subterranean termites very well, and the first sign is usually a mud tube on a wall or a skirting board that gives slightly under a thumb. That is worth a phone call the day you notice it rather than the month after.
Because our vans are based in Wattala, an urgent job in Colombo is usually seen the a scheduled visit and a routine one the next.
The district covers the city itself and the suburbs immediately around it, and almost every kind of building we work on is somewhere in it. Cinnamon Gardens and the older residential quarters carry original timber and mature gardens, so termites and mosquitoes lead there. Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya and Wellawatte are dense, mixed and commercial, so cockroaches and rodents lead. The outer suburbs, Nugegoda, Maharagama, Dehiwala and Moratuwa, are residential in bulk with their own local factors.
The sectors present are effectively all of them: hospitality, offices, retail, food production, healthcare, education and logistics, plus the largest concentration of apartment living in the country. Apartment blocks are the single most common source of the calls we cannot fix in one visit, because service risers and shared waste stacks connect every unit and treating one flat properly means treating where those pipes enter it.
Practically, the Colombo district is the area we cover most closely and can schedule most easily, and it is where the specific suburb pages on this site are worth reading rather than this one. If your address is in Dehiwala, Nugegoda, Rajagiriya, Battaramulla, Kotte, Maharagama, Moratuwa or one of the numbered Colombo postcodes, those pages say something more useful than a district overview can.
Practically, the Colombo district is where we can offer the most flexibility on timing, because it is the area we are in most days. That matters for the jobs that need working around somebody: a restaurant that can only be treated between services, an office that needs an evening, a household where somebody works shifts.
It is also the district where the difference between a domestic and a commercial job is least predictable from the address. A building on a residential street may hold four offices and a bakery, and a smart apartment block may have a shared basement with a waste problem that belongs to the whole building. We ask what the property actually is rather than assuming from the road it sits on.
The district is also where the largest share of shared-building problems sit, and those are worth understanding before you pay for anything. In an apartment block or a subdivided house, service risers and shared waste stacks connect units, so treating one flat properly means treating the points where those pipes enter it. Where a whole building is affected, one conversation with the management achieves what eight separate visits will not.
Locally
What we see most in Colombo
- Apartment blocks: cockroaches travel through shared risers, so we seal and treat the pipe entries, not just the kitchen
- Older houses in Cinnamon Gardens and Bambalapitiya: subterranean termites in mature timber, usually found as mud tubes on a wall
- Restaurants along Galle Road and Marine Drive: gel bait work between closing and the morning delivery
- Monsoon months bring rodents indoors as drains fill, most of it is solved by finding one gap
- The vans are based in Wattala, so this is a short drive

Asked locally
Questions we get in Colombo
- Which page should I read if I am in a specific suburb?
- The suburb one. Dehiwala, Nugegoda, Rajagiriya, Battaramulla, Kotte, Maharagama, Moratuwa and the numbered Colombo postcodes each have a page that says something more useful about local building stock and pests than a district overview can.
- Do you treat apartment blocks as a whole building?
- Where the building will let us, yes, and it is nearly always the better answer. Service risers and shared waste stacks connect units, so a problem reported on one floor frequently started elsewhere. One conversation with the management achieves what eight separate flat visits will not.
Most asked for
Treatments we are booked for
Termite control
Colony treatment that deals with the nest, not just the trail you can see.
Bed bug treatment
A room-by-room programme, because bed bugs are never only in the bed.
Rodent control
Find the way in, close it, then remove what is already inside.
Ant control
Treat the nest through the workers, rather than wiping the trail off the counter.
Getting the species right is most of the work, so every job starts with a look at what you actually have.
